Seme MP James Nyikal has called on President William Ruto to participate in removing corrupt individuals from the government.

Speaking in an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, Nyikal said that it’s only the president who has the power to end corruption in the country.

“I can remember one thing my father told me that there is only one person who can stop corruption and that person is the president. Nobody else. And he has to mean it at heart,” he said.

“Starting with the people surrounding him, the Cabinets, PS, military, and police. And that president who will do that, must he himself agree that he must live as a spiritual person.”

He pleaded with the government not to revoke the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) but to make sure the cartels have been impeded.

“Let us not kill NHIF. Let us as a country come together and kill these cartels. The cartels live in our hearts as a nation,” Nyikal said.

This is after eight branch managers of NHIF were suspended on Monday after they were accused of using underhand tactics to fleece Kenyans.

Health CS Susan Nakumicha faulted the cartels for colluding with branch managers to orchestrate the scheme.

She ordered the NHIF board to commence investigations into the alleged fraud and present a preliminary report to her desk within the next 48 hours.

According to the CS, the investigations will include inviting the whistle-blower to shed light on the details of the syndicate.

"I have further made a special request to EACC to lias with NHIF and carry out comprehensive investigations to find out how these cartels siphon resources from Kenyans and NHIF specifically and I hope this can be availed within the next seven days," Nakumicha said.

She also directed the division of standards and regulations to take action on the same and give a report.
