Nairobi has 286 public schools, out of which 205 are primary institutions and the remaining 81 are secondary schools.

Speaking in Roysambu, Ruto said each classroom will approximately cost Sh800,000- Sh850,000.

"Anyone who will claim a higher price, hiyo ni ukora, " Ruto said.

The President commended the Nairobi MCAs for agreeing to construct 1500 classrooms.

"All children in Nairobi need to be in class. Unfortunately, many children at the moment are not in school because there is no space. But our MCAs have committed to adding another 1500 classrooms," he said.

In total, Nairobi should have 6,000 new classrooms in the next three years.

In Nairobi, Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Kwa Reuben and Viwandani are home to about 400,000 people.

Despite having a school population of 122,000, the three slums are only served by six public schools.

This number of public schools is against a total of 182 unregistered and unregulated education facilities that are dilapidated and often provide very poor education.

The residents had requested the Kenya Kwanza government to construct at least 10 new schools within the three areas.
