Ruto appoints Atwoli, Mbarak to seven-member selection panel for DPP recruitment

The appointment comes a few days after former DPP Noordin Haji took over as the new National Intelligence Service (NIS) director general.

President William Ruto has gazetted a seven-member selection committee for the recruitment of the next Director of Public Prosecution.

In a gazette notice dated June 21, Central Organization of Trade Unions boss Francis Atwoli and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission CEO Twalib Mbarak, are among the seven.

Others are Mary Kimonye (Principal Administrative Secretary, State Department for Public Service), Shadrack Mose (Solicitor general), Mary Adhiambo (Secretary - HRM and Development, State Department for Public Service), Roseline Odede (Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights) and Richard Obwocha.

"I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint the following to be members of the Selection Panel for the Selection of Nominees for appointment as the Director of Public Prosecutions," the notice reads.

The panel will nominate persons who will be suitable to take over from Haji and recommend the names to the president.

The president will then nominate one person and send the name to the National Assembly for vetting and once approved, he or she will be appointed by the president.

The appointment comes a few days after former DPP Noordin Haji took over as the new National Intelligence Service director general.

Haji took oath of office on June 14 at State House, Nairobi, in a ceremony presided by President William Ruto after his successful vetting and approval by the National Assembly.
