There is a heavy traffic snarl-up along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa Highway in Athi River, Machakos County.

The road has been barricaded by demonstrators at the Green Park Gardens area near Mto Wa Mawe Bridge.

They are protesting against the ongoing forceful evictions from the East African Portland Cement Company land in Athi River.

The protestors have lit tires and blocked the road using stones paralysing transport on the highway.

Anti-riot police officers are engaging the protestors in an attempt to open up the highway.

They have lobbed teargas canisters at the demonstrators.
