Nandi County government plans to clear all outstanding pending bills owed to contractors and suppliers in the past years.

In the 2023/2024 financial estimates tabled at the county assembly of Nandi by Finance and economic planning CECM Alfred Serem, the county has set aside Sh300m to clear the bills.

Serem told the assembly that the administration of Governor Stephen Sang planned to clear all debts they owe various suppliers and contractors for the services they have offered.

“We plan to clear the outstanding Sh300m we owe various companies recorded as pending bills,” Serem told the assembly.

Governor Sang who is in his final second term tabled a budget that he anticipate to complete all stalled projects some of which he inherited from the first Nandi governor Cleophas Lagat.

In the budget estimates of Sh9.030 billion, Nandi county has given priority to the completion of projects among them, the county assembly complex which is set to receive Sh100m.

Others are the governor’s offices, Eliud Kipchoge sports training complex and the Mother Baby Hospital within the Kapsabet County referral hospital which are set to receive the lion's share of the budget.

Serem said the county had handed over the completion of Kipchoge Keino stadium to the national government.

“That is a completion stadium and a national monument which the national government has accepted to complete and manage it hence we are left with Eliud Kipchoge training complex,” Serem explained.

Nandi County also anticipates a doubling of its own source revenues from ksh. 250M to ksh 515M at the close of the 2023/2024 FY.

According to Serem, Finance CECM, the county is embracing technology to maximize revenue collection as it all eyes revenues from multi-national Tea plantations in Nandi.

The county and the Kenya Tea growers association (KTGA) are currently engaging in round table talks with a view of increasing land rates from the current ksh. 100 per acre to ksh 2400.

The move is expected to earn the Nandi county government an estimated additional revenue of Sh400m which would boost its own source income.

Nandi bursary fund also received a lion's share of Sh120m from the previous Sh60m aimed at ensuring that each administrative ward is set to receive Sh4m for needy students.
