Vocal lawyer Danstan Omari has set his eyes on the vacant position of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The position fell vacant after former officeholder Noordin Haji was nominated and subsequently appointed National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General by President William Ruto.

According to Omari, he is qualified to be the next occupant of the office left by Haji.

In a video seen by the Star, Omari while addressing a gathering said, "I have cleared all cases for people Noordin Haji was prosecuting. Noordin has left. Can't I ask to be DDP?"

Omari who was speaking in the Gusii dialect posed before he handed back the microphone and walked back to his seat.

Omari and Haji had a bitter-sweet relationship as they mostly found themselves on opposite sides as they sought justice.

This saw them have heated exchanges in the media over their work.

Noordin Haji officially took charge at the NIS on June 14, after he was sworn in at State House, Nairobi.

Haji took his oath in a ceremony presided by President William Ruto.

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta picked Haji from NIS to become the country’s second Director of Public Prosecutions under the 2010 Constitution.

He previously served as Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit within the National Intelligence Service.
