Lawyer Nelson Havi on Thursday addressed media reports that he was among candidates interested in becoming the next Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

According to Havi, the reports are misleading.

He went on to say that he has not and does not intend to apply for the DPP job.

Havi insisted that he will continue with his job as chairperson of the Retirement Benefits Authority and private practice as an advocate.

"Media houses and journalists have a duty to report accurately. The publication by The Standard is false. I have not applied nor will I apply for the position of DPP. I continue offering legal services in my firm, Havi & Company Advocates, and serving the public as Chairman of RBA," the lawyer said in a tweet.

President William Ruto appointed Havi to the RBA board in February, for a period of three years.

Havi was reacting to a report by a local daily that named him and Cliff Ombeta among those looking to become DPP.

It also mentioned lawyers Kioko Kilukumi and Katwa Kigen.

The report comes even as the Selection panel for recruitment of the Director of Public Prosecutions called on interested persons to apply, on Thursday.

"Pursuant to provisions of Article 157 of the Constitution and section 8(1) -(4) of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Act, 2013, the Selection Panel invites applications from suitably qualified persons to be considered for nomination for appointment to the position of the Director of Public Prosecutions," a notice by the panel's chairperson Shadrack Mose reads.

Interested persons have until Wednesday, July 12 at 5 pm to apply.
