Gachagua gives man Sh300,000 for house savings top up

Kairu revealed that he had saved over Sh500,000 for affordable housing.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday gifted an elderly man Sh300,000 to top up his savings for affordable housing.

This is after the man, Joseph Kairu revealed that he had saved over Sh500,000 for affordable housing.

Gachagua noted that he was a civil servant and he also saved bit by bit, just like Kairu had done and because of that he was going to top up his savings.

"Mheshimiwa rais, huyu mzee amefanya bidii sana na alikuwa civil servant na hata mimi nilikuwa civil servant, nilisave kidogo. Amesave over Sh500,000. Nitamuongeza Sh300,000 tuongeze kwa ile yake," the Deputy president said.

This translates to, "Your Excellency, this man has worked hard and he was a civil servant. I was also a civil servant and I saved a bit. He has saved Sh500,000, I will top up Sh300,000 to his savings."

A Cabinet secretary who was also present at the exhibition on Boma Yetu at KICC said he would also add the elderly man another Sh100,000 for his savings.

President William Ruto also said he would top up Sh500,000 to a lady living with a disability, who has been saving with Boma Yetu, for affordable housing.

Jemima Nyaboke said she had saved over Sh400,000, with the platform.

"I will also add mama Nyaboke Sh500,000 to top up her savings."

The two leaders spoke ahead of the launch of over 5,000 digitised government services at the KICC.
