President William Ruto has directed all markets in Nairobi to be installed with Wi-Fi, to enable traders to trade online.

Ruto said all the new 20 markets that are set to be constructed should be installed with Wi-Fi.

"I want the ICT CS to work with Governor Sakaja to have 20 new markets in Nairobi, including existing markets to have Internet," he said.

The President spoke at KICC where he unveiled the digital government services.

With the installation of the internet, traders can now use the Internet to trade online from the comfort of their stalls.

Already, City Market and Kawangware have had their free internet installed.

While campaigning last year, Sakaja said his administration would not demolish markets or chase away hawkers from their bases of operations.

He promised to construct 20 new markets across Nairobi including Ngara and ensure that every trader is allocated a space.

To support traders within the county to transact their business, Sh730 million has been allocated for the construction of various markets while Sh50 million will go for the rehabilitation of markets.

This is part of Sakaja's Sh42.3 billion budget which was passed by Nairobi MCAs.

The government has already made significant progress in connecting various locations to the Internet through different platforms, particularly in Nyanza and Nairobi.

The government plans to enrol 25,000 similar installations countrywide.

The initiative aims to bridge the unemployment gap by leveraging the power of digital technologies.

By utilizing the free Wi-Fi hotspots, young Kenyans can access online job opportunities and expand their prospects in the digital marketplace.
