Three people have died in two different road accidents along the busy Nairobi – Mombasa highway.

The trio died on the spot during the incidences that occurred in Salama and ACK areas within Mukaa sub-county, Makueni County on Sunday.

The incidences caused heavy traffic snarl–up along the highway for the better part of the day.

Mukaa subcounty police Commander Barnabus Ng’eno said all the three who died were drivers of the trailers involved in the accidents.

Ng’eno said in the first incident, a trailer transporting avocado fruits overturned killing its driver on the spot. The other two trailers rammed into each other leading to the deaths.

He said the vehicle was moving from Mombasa direction towards Nairobi general direction when the accident occurred.

“There was a trailer that was transporting avocado. It happened that when it was descending the steep along highway. The driver lost its control making it overturn,” Ng’eno told reporters hours after the incident.

“All the drivers of three trailers, unfortunately, died in the accidents. They died on the spot,” the police boss said.

Ng’eno said both the two trailers were moving from Nairobi to Mombasa in general directions when the accidents occurred.

All the bodies were moved to the mortuary awaiting postmortem while the wreckage was towed to Mukaa police station pending inspection.
