Governor shuffles Mandera executive to improve services

Khalif announced government changes eight months after he assumed office.

Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif on Saturday said county executives must focus on serving residents to ensure benefits reach the grassroots.

He announced government changes eight months after he assumed office.

In a circular signed by County Secretary Hassan Noor Adan, Dr Mohamed Adan, who was the Health executive has swapped places with his Water counterpart Mohamed Ali .

Adan served in the Health docket during former Governor Ali Roba’s regime making him the longest serving CEC.

The other three who served under Roba’s administration and who Khalif retained were Mohamed Ali Omar and Nadhifa Ahmed.

Abukar Abdi Sheikh, who was the Public Health executive, has been moved to Trade while Muktar Issack Kassim has been moved to Health.

Abdiwahab Mohamed has been moved from Trade to Youth and Sports while Fatuma Abdi Hassan has been moved from Social services to Human Capital. Ms Farhiya Ali Abdullahi moves from Sports to Women Empowerment.

Fatuma Mohamed Tiko moves from Special Programmess to Social Services while Mohamed Shukri Abikar moves from County Infrastructure to Circular Economy, solid  Waste management and Sanitation.

Khalif said he was keen to deliver on the promises he made to the electorate.

The governor stressed the importance of employees giving value for the money earned as salaries and allowances.

“Each one of you, be it a CEC, a chief officer or even a director, has his job cut out. You know what is required of you at all times. You should remain professional and adhere to set standards,” the county chief said.

Khalif, a former county assembly speaker, said people should do their work without somebody necessarily monitoring or pushing them, saying that when they fail to deliver on the ground then they will be failing him.

In its latest report, the Controller of Budget ranked Mandera among the top five counties in absorption of development expenditure.

The county came fifth with 39 per cent after Tharaka Nithi, Samburu, Narok and Nyeri.
