Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai seemingly beat up KPLC official, Julius Onkangi, ON Monday in Kitengela over alleged claims he removed electric poles leading to the legislator’s house, video seen by the Star shows.

In a viral video, Mbai is seemingly seen lecturing the KPLC staff at his home in Kitengela and even accused them of purportedly demanding bribes before supplying electricity to the residents of Kitengela.

“The time of bribe-taking is over, I will not allow you to do that to any other Kenyan before supplying electric power,” he said in the video.

When we sought his comment, the MP defended himself, saying he had been invaded by the KPLC staff at his house.

“I had to fight back. The viral video you are talking about has been edited to only show me fighting back,” said the MP.

In the video, however, the MP is seemingly captured punching the KPLC official first, and it also shows that the official did not retaliate.

According to the MP, the KPLC officials had delayed installing power at his Kitengela home and he chose to talk to their director in Nairobi.

“After I talked to the directors in Nairobi, engineers were sent to my house and they did the job,” he claimed.

But Onkangi alleged that the power to the MP’s house was illegally installed, adding that no engineers from outside Kitengela could be given the job without them being consulted.

Onkangi had been accompanied to the MP’s house by KPLC security and two regular police officers from Kitengela police station.

The KPLC officials alleged there were many illegal connections of electric power around the MP’s residence. When the MP purportedly started attacking the KPLC official, no police officer stopped the legislator as he supposedly rained blows around his neck and the MP’s pistol was apparently explicitly displayed from the back of his trouser.

He was wearing a short-sleeved shirt.

The MP said President William Ruto had told KPLC staff if they find illegal connections anywhere in the country, they should provide meters so that no one can steal the services.

“Instead of these people doing the same, they are busy pulling down their electric poles and asking for bribes,” claimed the MP.

Kitengela OCS told the Star he was in Kajiado town the entire day and had no details of what transpired at the MP’s house on Monday.

“When I come to Kitengela, I will look at the records and brief you accordingly,” said the OCS.

We tried to reach out to him in the evening, but he said he was busy and that he would call later.

Onkangi said he reported the assault case at Kitengela police station. The Star will follow up with the OCS on the same.
