Kindiki: State to gazette Turkana South game reserve

The government will gazette the Turkana South game reserve as a security operation zone to flush out all criminals, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has said.

The CS also said this will help deal with highway banditry along Kitale-Lodwar Road.

He spoke on Thursday during the operationalisation of the Lokichogio subcounty in Turkana.

"The government will shortly gazette Turkana South game reserve as a security operation zone and flush out all armed criminals using the game reserve as a recruitment ground and hideout," he tweeted.

Kindiki said security officers should ruthlessly pursue and deal with terrorists and armed criminals who attacked and killed police officers in Mandera.

On June 7, Kindiki announced the creation of four new subcounties in Turkana to ease administration and tame insecurity.

As part of dealing with the impacts of cattle rustling and banditry in the region, the CS announced that the joint KDF and police operation against the vice will embark on reconstructing destroyed infrastructure.

Kindiki said schools in the region destroyed will be reconstructed and modernised for Sh100 million.

"All schools in Turkana East constituency that were raided and vandalised by bandits and armed criminals, among them Napeitom, Nadome, Lokidong'iru and Ng'ilukia, will be immediately reconstructed," he said.
