City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi now says that the rebellion fronted by the opposition against the government is not because of ideologies that can move the country forward.

In a statement on Monday, Ahmednasir said the opposition is driven by the idea that President William Ruto is 'weak'.

The lawyer was reacting to planned Wednesday protests that are expected to take place in various towns across the country.

"This rebellion isn't propelled by great and progressive ideas and agendas that will take Kenya forward. This rebellion is fuelled by a feeling that President Ruto is 'a toothless bulldog'", Ahmednasir said.

On Friday last week, the Opposition led a series of anti-government protests in various parts of the country.

The protests, which are because of among other things, the high cost of living saw residents of these towns engage with the police in running battles as teargas marked the order of the day.

The opposition then called for other protests on Wednesday.

Police said that at least five officers were injured in last Friday’s Saba Saba protests in Nairobi.

Police shot and killed at least six people in separate incidents in Kisii, Migori and Kisumu.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki confirmed police shot and killed six people in the protests.

“Last Friday, during the mass protests, six people were killed and others injured, including security officers. Freedom of association and the right to demonstrate/picket do not include the right to cause mayhem and loot property.”
