Health unions have disputed reports on any ongoing negotiations with the Ministry of Health to avert the looming strike.

This comes barely a day after Health CS Susan Nakhumicha said that Health PS State Department Public Health and Professional Standards was in talks with the unions to iron out issues of contention and reach a possible agreement.

But in a rejoinder, the health unions caucus has said despite the PS reaching out and promising to fix a meeting with the unions, that is yet to happen.

This means should the stalemate remain unresolved, Kenyans might from Friday be forced to seek medical care from private health facilities should the unions keep their threat to down their tools from Thursday midnight.

The Kenya Union of Clinical Officer's chairperson Peterson Wachira said despite giving a 60 days notice to avert possible disruption in healthcare services, the ministry and counties are yet to honour their plea.

"The counties and the Ministry of Health have not been able to convene that platform where we can be able to agree on what needs to be done to resolve the dispute at hand," Wachira said.

"What we are saying is that the employers have decided to go on strike and they have decided that we must join them. Basically, they have started the strike and today we are here to reiterate that the strike that starts Thursday midnight stands," Wachira added.

Healthcare unions had threatened to rally their members to down their tools from Friday should their grievances remain unresolved.

The nurses, clinicians, dieticians and laboratory technologists had on May 15 issued a 60 days strike notice to the ministry and county governments regarding unconcluded CBAs and recognition agreements.
