The woman who was fighting for her life at the Bondo Sub County Hospital after she was injured by her husband has lost the battle.

Bondo Sub County Police Commander Robert Apoki confirmed her passing on, saying it occurred on Monday.

"It is true. She died yesterday while undergoing treatment at the Bondo Sub County Hospital," Apoki told the Star on the phone.

Brenda Kimanzi, 25, had sustained a bullet wound on her buttocks on the morning of July 7, 2023.

Her husband, Michael Kyalo, 27, killed himself using the same riffle shortly after injuring her.

The police boss said that the bodies of the couple are lying in the hospital's morgue.

The immediate former Bondo police boss Ibrahim Kosi told the media last Friday that the shooting incident occured at the house of the police officer within the Bondo police station.

"It is unfortunate we have an incident where one of my officers shot himself. He was issued with a riffle to proceed to work but he returned to his house and picked a quarrel with the wife," Kosi said last Friday.

The officer turned the bullet to himself and fired a shot that killed him instantly, the police commander reported.

The deceased police constable was just a few months old in the service by the time he caused grave bodily harm to the wife and died by suicide, Kosi had explained.

Investigations are still underway to establish what transpired, Apoki said.
