Form three student shot dead in Migori demonstrations

A form three boy died after being shot dead by police during violent demonstrations in Migori town.

Stephen Okinyi, 19, was shot dead at Oruba estate in Suna West Sub-County in Migori County.

He is a student at Rabuor Kogello Secondary School.

Okinyi was shot in the thigh during morning hours where he was first admitted at Oruba Nursing Home before being transferred to a private hospital in Migori town.

He later succumbed to his injuries.

His body was later moved to Migori County Referral Hospital's morgue.

Migori County Referral Hospital medical superintendent Ian Omuom confirmed that the body of the boy was at the facility's morgue.

"We were at home relaxing when he said he wanted to walk outside and see what was happening. Twenty minutes later. he was shot," Okinyi's brother Barack Ochieng said.

He revealed that his brother, an orphan, had been sent home from school due to a lack of school fees.

"At around 11 am, we got a report that my brother was shot. We are shocked because he was in a residential area and police resorted to extra judicial killing," Ochieng said.

"They are also shooting those who are not picketing." 

Charles Osewe Bunge la wananchi chair in Migori County said since Maandamano started, they are not happy about the force placed on them by police.

He said from last Friday today's death is the third in Migori town.
