The Moja Expressway Company has announced that  three toll stations that were closed after vandalism by protestors have resumed operations.

The stations include; Mlolongo, Syokimau and the SGR Toll stations.

In a statement on Sunday, the company said that motorists will continue enjoying services after the stations were opened.

However, they urged

"For your safety we urge all motorists to be mindful of the ongoing restoration works at selected location and drive within the prescribed speed limit," reads the statement.

Protesters on Wednesday pulled down the Expressway barrier near Mlolongo.

They were seen pulling the barrier by force to remove it.

As some of them were pulling the barrier, others were jumping and shouting, while others destroyed the flower containers lining the Expressway walls.

Transport was also briefly paralysed on the Mombasa Highway as protesters barricaded the road.

Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen said that the damage done on the Nairobi Expressway could be upwards of Sh700 million.

Speaking on Thursday during a visit to assess the damage caused by protestors, Murkomen said the value was arrived at after going through all that was vandalised.

The CS said his ministry is disappointed by organizers of the protests who claim to be fighting the high cost of living.

"From the Ministry of Roads and Transport, we are disappointed with the organizers of yesterday's mass action as was announced and we have assessed the damage.

"The people who have been organizing this mass action have told the nation they are doing so because they want to fight the cost of living but the damage only done on the Expressway for that short period could be anything up to $5 million (Sh706 million)," Murkomen said.
