In Summary

  • • Ojienda said them working with President William Ruto and belonging to the opposition was a testimony that his administration is doing the right thing.
  • • This, he added, was the reason the ODM leaders, who have been termed as rebels, had chosen to "deliberately" work with the Kenya Kwanza government.

Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda has said Nyanza leaders have no apology to offer ODM leader Raila Odinga for working with Kenya Kwanza government.

Ojienda said by working with President William Ruto and belonging to the opposition was a testimony that his administration is doing the right thing.

"That is why we have chosen to deliberately work with your government. And there's no apology about that," Ojienda said.

He spoke on Saturday during the homecoming ceremony of Interior PS Raymond Omollo in Homa Bay County.

The Senator said the Constitutional gave them the right to work with the government for his electorate to get development.

He quoted the Constitution on political rights under Article 38 which states that, "Every citizen is free to make political choices, which includes the right (a) to form, or participate in forming, a political party;(b) to participate in the activities of, or recruit members for, a political party; or(c) to campaign for a political party or cause."

Ojienda is among the nine dissenting members of the Orange party, who have pledged to work with Ruto.

Others are MPs Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o (Lang'ata), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem) Mark Nyamita (Uriri)and Paul Abuor (Rongo).

The nine are set to appear before the ODM disciplinary committee on Wednesday next week with the party threatening to kick them out.
