Mt Kenya people are peaceful and know how to exercise their democratic rights without causing mayhem, looting, or destroying property, former Agriculture CS Peter Munya has said.

Munya claimed there is a specific squad within the police force with orders to shoot and kill innocent Kenyans engaging in the Azimio protests.

"Those who are destroying property, killing and burning houses are incited police officers. There are also advanced recruitment plans and the emergence of illegal gangs being formed to engage in war crimes and kill people,” he said.

Munya said there is no turning back on picketing until the Finance Act that was enacted by President William Ruto and which he alleged was meant to cripple Mt Kenya business people, is shot down.

He said boda boda riders have parked their motorcycles due to high fuel prices while many cannot afford their daily bread because of the high cost of living.

“The turnover tax on businesses is detrimental to business owners in Mt Kenya. Everyone with the smallest business even if it has no profits, you must pay. The miraa traders, the smallest trader in the market (mama mboga, green grocery), and even brokers are the main target of the Finance Act."

"This is the reason we will never keep quiet. We warned Kenyans against electing Ruto. Our people do not feed on handouts but their own sweat from their farms. The Finance Act aims to draw back gains of Mt Kenya business people,” he said.

Munya said people ignored Uhuru’s warning there will be dire consequences after electing Ruto and are now in great regret.

He accused some MPs who have been castigating them over demos, saying they have been bribed to keep quiet while residents are suffering.

“We can’t keep quiet to face a similar fate to what happened in 2007/2009. We are ready to defend and raise our voices like our forefathers fought for Independence,” he said.

Munya said they will continue fighting for Kenyans as the country is headed in the wrong direction.

“They are mad with former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s name. Whether asleep or awake, what lingers in their minds is his name. Leave his name alone. It is now almost a year but the economy has deteriorated. Unga prices are high. Coffee prices have gone down, Macadamia is selling at Sh20 from Sh200. Is Uhuru culpable? This government has failed. They think holding rallies and attending churches to deceive people will salvage their downfall?” Munya said.

He said people should be allowed to exercise their democratic rights, adding that no leader should lecture them on Uhuru family land ownership whereas they own thousands of them within a short time.
