Migori Senator Eddy Oketch has issued a warning to the government over the high taxation of Kenyans.

Oketch said demonstrations by Azimio La Umoja are not a fight for Raila Odinga but for the rights of oppressed Kenyans.

“The people of Kenya are angry, annoyed and feel conned. They feel stolen from. And it is very unfortunate that because of the insensitivity of the UDA government Ruto and Gachagua still believe that this is a war of Raila Odinga. This is a war of Kenyans,” Oketch said on Sunday.

"If you think this is Raila’s fight, then you have not known Kenyans.”

He said that those who claim that Raila is a coward for fighting for Kenyans are wrong.

“Raila did not make it to be this leader who is followed by almost all Kenyans and respected internationally because of being a 'coward'. He is not a coward,” Oketch said.

“What we are fighting for is the high cost of living to go down and against buying of MPs who people have given the power to go and make laws in Parliament while Ruto and Gachagua have chosen to buy those MPs which is against the people.”

The Senator appealed to President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua to withdraw the Finance Act which has resulted in the high cost of living.

“We are appealing to Ruto and Gachagua and the disciples who have decided to cheat Kenyans to withdraw the Finance Bill and let Kenyans not pay taxes in the level that you want them to pay,” Oketch said.

He said if the government insists on the Finance Act, protests will be held every day.

“But if you insist, after next week we will be doing maandamano every single day,” Oketch said.

Oketch was speaking on Sunday when he launched the Oketch Gicheru Scholarship program which aims to support needy Kenyan high school students.

The beneficiaries of the scholarship program will henceforth be known as Oketch Gicheru Scholars.
