Traders in Marikiti however complained of low business due to the tension in the CBD.
Several residents of Mombasa took to the streets to take part in the Azimio protests.
However, in some parts of Mombasa, Police were forced to lob teargas canisters to disperse a handful of protesters that had gathered around the Express area along Moi Avenue.
The protesters lit bonfires blocking the road that leads to the main entrance of the Port of Mombasa.
Kindiki had earlier fired a warning shot at those planning to engage in violent demonstrations.
