Raila breaks silence on Wednesday demos, condemns use of excessive force

Says it's unwarranted for police to use live bullets on children

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has condemned the use of live bullets during Wednesday's anti-government demonstrations.

In a statement accompanied by a video of a young boy who was allegedly shot in the leg, Raila said this was unwarranted. 

"This illegitimate regime is targeting innocent children; using live bullets. Totally unwarranted, unjustifiable, and uncalled for. This happened in Mashimoni-Kibra today," he said.

At least 13 people have been taken to various hospitals across the country with gunshot sounds.

Confirming the number of casualties in Nakuru Level Five Hospital, medical superintendent Dr James Waweru Munene said seven people with gunshot wounds were received at the facility.

Four of them have been wheeled to theatre for surgeries while the other three are in stable condition.

There was one fatality in Nakuru.

Four victims with gunshot wounds were received at Bondo subcounty Hospital in Kisumu County.

In Kangemi, two people were rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Confirming the incident to the Star, the hospital director Dr Aron Shikuku said they will be referring one of the patients to KNH due to the complications of his injuries.
