Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has insisted that he did his best to defend Kenya when he was head of state.

The former President now says as a retired president, he is focused on defending his family.

Speaking on Friday, Uhuru said people might have different opinions on his time in charge but he knows he did the best.

The former president said when his time to leave the stage came he handed over and left and since he is retired, he will do his best to protect his family.

"I defended Kenya and I did my best for this country. You may have different opinions but according to me. I did the best I could do for my country and I handed over when my time was finished. I will now do my best to defend my family and I won't be intimidated," Uhuru said.

He said his silence did not equate to cowardice, adding that if his family's safety was threatened he was going to defend them.

"As you know I have been quiet. But being quiet does not mean I will not defend my family. I will defend my family and I will defend it to the end," he said.

He spoke at the residence of his son after police allegedly raided the home.

The police reportedly searched what is said to be illegal weapons.

The former President also fired back at the government following the withdrawal of his mother Mama Ngina Kenyatta's security and a raid conducted at his son's Karen home.

He condemned the raid at his son's Karen home saying the government should deal with him instead of interfering with the lives of his children.

He said if anyone had any grievance to settle with him, they should do so with him not his family.

"To you, who think you can intimidate an old woman to intimidate me, who think you can intimidate children and grandchildren to intimidate me, come here I am," he said.

"Wachana na watoto, wachana na wazee. Mimi niko hapa kama mkona maswali."

On Tuesday evening, the official security detail of Mama Ngina Kenyatta was withdrawn from her homes in Gatundu and Muthaiga.

An officer aware of the development confirmed to the Star the withdrawal.

"We withdrew the guards from there for some debriefing but they will be back. She is entitled to security," said one official who asked not to be named.

The officers were redeployed back to the Nairobi homes on Wednesday.
