Kenya Ports Authority MD William Ruto says the authority will enhance its corporate social investment to support needy Kenyans countrywide.

He said KPA is keen to intensify community outreach programmes.

Significant contributions have already made to the development of more than 70 infrastructure projects countrywide.

He said KPA support has already been extended to several institutions.

These include health facilities, schools, libraries, dormitories in education institutions, classrooms and rehabilitation centres.

Rotich made the remarks on Friday in a speech read on his behalf when KPA donated 50 wheelchairs to assist children living with disability at Jawabu Rehabilitation Centre in Eldoret.

The KPA team, led by litigation manager Moses Sangoro, along with the Eldoret Golf Club jointly donated wheelchairs worth Sh850,000.

The donation was received by director of Jawabu, Patrick Ruto.

Also present was Dr Esther Chumo, who is chairperson of the Eldoret Golf Club.

Ruto said children and people with disabilities face a variety of obstacles, which hinder them from living normal lives and attaining their full potential in life.

He said without support like wheelchairs, some of the people living with disability are often confined to the homes or beds and are usually unable to carry on with their livelihoods.

"It's important that we all work together in society to modify social attitudes regarding disability and provide a favourable environment, especially for our children living with disability," Ruto said.

Sangoro said KPA is also keen to ensuring inclusion of the differently abled persons through offering equal opportunities in employment and service provision.

"KPA has not only ensured inclusivity for them but also gone further to support them through our corporate social responsibility," he said.
