A man has died in an accident along Nairobi–Namanga road within Athi River, Machakos County.

Mark Omongoluk, 32, died on the spot after a motorcycle he was riding on was hit by a motor vehicle near Shell Petrol station on Sunday.

Athi River South sub-county police commander Jos Mudavadi said the deceased was riding the motorbike from Kitengela's general direction when it was hit by a motor vehicle that was moving from the opposite direction.

The incident was reported to the Athi River police station as a fatal injury road traffic report.

“It was reported to the station that the Toyota NZE Saloon was being driven from Nairobi heading towards Kitengela general direction and on reaching the location where the accident occurred, its driver failed to keep his near side and collided head-on with an oncoming motorcycle,” Mudavadi told the Star on Monday.

Mudavadi said the motorcyclist died on the spot due to serious injuries.

“Due to the impact, the said motorcycle was pushed and hit another vehicle whose driver escaped unhurt,” he said.

The police boss said the body was removed to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

He said the scene was processed and both wreckages were towed to the Athi River police station awaiting inspection.

Mudavadi said they had launched investigations into the accident.
