The hearing of a murder case against former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his two aides will proceed today.
Obado and his aides- Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero- were charged with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby in 2018.
Last week, former Homa Bay MCA Lawrence Mula testified saying Sharon had demanded a Sh25 million house from Obado and another Sh5 million for upkeep.
He said Obado had agreed to do as Sharon wanted and thus he so no reason for the then-governor to kill her girlfriend.
Sharon's mother Melinda Auma said Obado had wanted her daughter to abort his baby.
The trial proceeds today with a new witness expected to take the stand. Some 30 prosecution witnesses have already testified.
Azimio MPs, activists to be arraigned after weekend in police cells
Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch is among opposition politicians expected to be arraigned today after spending the weekend in police custody.
Oluoch was last week arrested as was Nairobi MCAs Peter Owera (Huruma), Peter Imwatok ( Makongeni) and Alvin Palapala (Kitusuru).
Imwatok who is also the majority leader in the Nairobi County assembly was arrested alongside his assistant Victor Obel.
Gachagua to address UN summit in Italy
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is set to address a high-level United Nations summit on financing food systems.
Gachagua will represent President William Ruto at the significant summit, whose participants are mainly Heads of State and key organisations.
The DP’s address will focus on Kenya's food systems transformation initiative, as part of the stocktaking of the commitment of States, governments and other Stakeholders in allocating resources to end hunger and malnutrition.
Italy's Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will take part in the meeting.
The leaders are seeking lasting solutions to hunger, malnutrition and mitigating the impact of climate change.
State House, lodges get new police comamander
The head of a specialized police unit that guards all State Houses and State Lodges has been moved in changes.
The new commander of the General Service Unit’s G Company is Ernest Cheruiyot.
Cheruiyot took over from George Nderitu who was moved to GSU headquarters and named the General Staffing Officer in the changes announced by the Deputy Inspector General of police Douglas Kanja.
Cheruiyot has been serving at the Recce Company at Ruiru where he was in charge of operations.
