Kikuyu, Kalenjin, Luo dominate jobs at ministries - report

Kindiki-led ministry had the highest number of officers who had been recruited

Kikuyu, Kalenjin and Luo account for the highest number of employees in the Ministries for the past three financial years.

As highlighted in a report tabled before the National Assembly this week, 17,970 officers from 41 ethnic communities were appointed to various Ministries and State Department from FY 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021 – 22.

“ Out of 17,970 officers, 9,461 were male, 8,509 were female while 416 were persons with disabilities,” reads the report.

In terms of distribution, 3,545 Kikuyu are officers at the ministries, 2,600 are Kalenjins, Luos come in third with 1,852, Luhya -1,834 and 1,541 are Kambas.

Looking at the distribution of appointments, the CS Kithure Kindiki-led ministry had the highest number of officers at 6,168 ( 3,688 males, 2,389 females and 91 PWDs).

Ministry of Health followed with 2,718 officers whereby 1,261 were males, 1,416 females and 41 PWDs.

CS Alice Wahome led ministry came in third with 1,969 officers (864 males, 1,077 females and 28 PWDs).
