Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi now wants President William Ruto to stick to his ground ahead of talks with the opposition.

Ngunyi insisted that nations are not built by cowards, which is why he should remain firm.

"Dear Ruto: Keep the Samoei spirit in you burning. Nations are not built by cowards," Ngunyi said.

His remarks came after it emerged that Ruto and his opponent and Azimio leader Raila Odinga agreed to have structured bipartisan talks.

Over the weekend, Raila and Ruto confirmed that they had met and set the grounds for talks, in a meeting mediated by former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo.

“I talked with the opposition leader and his team. I told them that we are a democratic country guided by the Constitution and law. We can disagree on many issues but no present, past or future leader will plan the violent destruction of property. That will never happen again in Kenya,” Ruto said.

“We can talk on other things but we are not going to negotiate about the safety of Kenya. We have agreed that violence and destruction of property will not be in the equation of the politics and governance of Kenya. The other things we can talk about” added the Head of State.

The Azimio side also confirmed the meeting on Sunday, during a press conference.

The two sides, however, seem to disagree on the issues for discussion, during the bipartisan talks.
