Working for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission was not a walk in the park, ex-commissioner Abdi Guliye has said.

Guliye who worked as a commissioner for six years, revealed that he had to make sacrifices because of the intensity of his job.

He said his family was isolated and was forced to even skip events because of his job.

"I was not in contact with my children's lives in school. I never used to visit them during Parents' Day because I didn't want anyone to know they are my children. But regardless, words go out even then," Guliye said on Monday.

The former IEBC commissioner noted that some of his children have even been mocked post his tenure at the commission.

"I remember my son telling me in school, Daddy when I go to the school kiosk they tell me pesa ya Ruto imekuja. That's what my family has been going through," Guliye said.

However, he said, the family is strong and explained to them that the hardship they are facing is part of his job which will not be forever.

With all done, Guliye said post-IEBC he has been making up for the time he lost with family and friends.

"I had lost touch with many of my friends over the six years. I'm reconnecting with my colleagues and I'm going back to my academic life," he said.

Post IEBC, Guliye said is even thinking of writing a book.

"Certainly there is more to write about IEBC which cannot be fit in one book, but its something I'm considering," he said.

After six years of service, Guliye, Former IEBC chairman Chebukati and commissioner Molu Boya left the commission after their term ended on January 17, 2023.

The three became the first commissioners of the IEBC to ever leave their positions on account of term completion.
