Kenyans have diverse thoughts on the capacity of teachers to train in the new Competency Based Curriculum.

According to a report released by the Presidential Working Party of Education Reforms, 34.64 per cent of Kenyans think that few teachers have been trained on CBC implementation.

The report showed that 33.75 per cent of Kenyans think teachers are not well prepared for CBC implementation because it was rushed.

10 per cent of Kenyans think there was a wrong interpretation of CBC due to inadequate training.

According to the report, 9.59 per cent of Kenyans are of the view that teachers are not properly prepared for the assessment of learners.

"6.31 per cent of Kenyans think that there were few opportunities for teacher professional development on CBC, 5.6 per cent think teacher training programs are expensive," the statement read.

Some stakeholders in the education sector think the training organised by TSC is superficial, hurried and conducted by unqualified trainers.

According to the report, teachers do not have confidence that the training they got was enough to handle the CBC curriculum.

The Presidential Working Party of Education Reforms recommended that there should be an adequate schedule and training workshops conducted early to allow teachers to interact with the content and seek different support systems before delivering the content to learners.

"Teachers’ training workshops should be done thoroughly, competently and concurrently in all regions," the statement read.
