Nassir bans heavy trucks from accessing major roads in Mombasa

Says the move will help to reduce traffic congestion in the county.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has banned heavy trucks from using major city roads at specific times.

Speaking on Friday, Nassir said that the move will help to reduce traffic congestion in the county.

"One of the things that is going to be able to assist us in terms of reducing traffic is that we have gazetted timings for heavy trucks.

"We are going to reduce truck movements along that particular road. It is at Nyali Bridge, Fidel Odinga, Links Road, New Malindi and Old Malindi Road and Ferry area," he said.

Nassir said the trucks will be barred from moving in the areas between 6 am to 9 am and between 3.30 pm to 8.00 pm.

He said the move will help to reduce vehicles on the roads at peak times of the day.

Nassir added that the banned heavy trucks are the ones that exceed 10 tonnes in nature.

The county chief expressed his intention to ensure residents of Mombasa benefit from projects in the county, including benefiting from the Port of Mombasa.

"I hope to leave a legacy that involves the people of Mombasa taking advantage of the port," he said.

Furthermore, Nassir announced that they have advertised the construction of the County Aggregated Industrial Park.

This, he said will bring more opportunities to the people, further spurring growth.

Nassir affirmed that a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Chamber of Commerce and the County Government is already in place in a bid to strengthen partnerships..
