President Willaim Ruto on Sunday revealed that he was happy on the achievements done in the Education sector.
Looking back the 10 months he has been in office, the Head of State said the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is his biggest achievement in the sector.
"I told Kenyans that we will solve the confusion in the education system. I remember that CBC had confused a lot of people with many parents and guardians being hopeless but the taskforce has made good reforms," Ruto said during an interview with Inooro TV.
The education sector is headed for radical reforms that Ruto said are critical in building human capital.
The reforms will form the sector’s blueprint that will dictate operations and the CBC.
This week Ruto endorsed a raft of proposed changes, some so far-reaching that they are likely to unsettle some stakeholders.
The President further stated that universities were drowning in debt, of almost Sh60 billion and most were almost being closed.
"We have sorted that out. We have changed how our children will be learning," Ruto said.
In terms of agriculture, President Ruto said that he wanted to bring in changes in the sector that will reduce the cost of living.
"If you want to sought out the issue of njaa , you have to go down to the farmers. That is the right intervention and that is why we started with subsidised fertilisers," he said.
This week Ruto announced a decrease in the price of fertiliser from Sh3,500 to Sh2,500.
He said the reduction has been in effect since yesterday, and 34,000 bags were sold to farmers.
Ruto said it was also the first time the fertilizers were distributed to farmers directly.
"We brought down the price of fertiliser to Sh2,500 for a 50kg bag as of yesterday. Farmers also bought 4,ooo bags yesterday which is a new record in the sale of fertiliser," he said.
Ruto said that Kenya had become a country known for debts.
The President said that he removed Sh3 billion in his first supplementary budget FY 2023-2024 which was to be used to source for debt.
" In my first budget, I explained to the budget chairman Ndindi Nyoro Mambo ya kuweka Kenya kwa madeni tuwache. So we reduced the fiscal deficit budget from around one trillion until seven billion and we have now stabilised the economy," Ruto said.
The President also boasted that for the first time in many months, the government has crossed over to a new Financial year without debts.
" By June 30, 2023 we paid all counties their dues. We have paid to the coin and have no arrear, " Ruto added.
The President revealed that his government has already disbursed the July funds to all 47 counties.
" Governors were even wondering how I have paid the July funds already because they were used to waiting for three to four months," Ruto added.
