Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Uganda's Yoweri Museveni on Monday co-chaired a technical committee meeting of the DRC peace process at State House, Entebbe.
Uhuru is the facilitator of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) East African Community (EAC)- led Nairobi Peace Process.
The former President was handed the mandate on July 22, 2022, by East African Community Heads of State at the end of the 22nd Ordinary Summit of EAC Heads of State in Arusha, Tanzania.
He took up the new mandate soon after handing over EAC Summit chairmanship to his Burundi's Evariste Ndayishimiye.
Uhuru has since then held several mediation talks in Nairobi and DRC in efforts to restore peace in the eastern part of the country where government soldiers are battling rebel groups in the North Kivu region.
The situation remains fragile despite countable ceasefires from the main rebel group M23 which still maintains a stranglehold on large swathes of territory encircling Goma, the provincial capital of North Kivu.
Congolese troops aided by regional forces with the exception of Rwanda have been battling more than 120 armed groups in the region leading to over 200 fatalities since October 2021.
