A clip has emerged online showing what appears like police whipping people at the Jevanjee gardens in Nairobi.
The garden is a public place synonymous with street preachers, bunge la mwananchi sessions and chill and rest spot for netizens.
In the undated clip, police are seen walking around seemingly ordering members of the public out of the place, at some point roughing up those who appeared to resist.
Nairobi Central Police OCPD Doris Kimeli said police were dispersing an illegal meeting at the garden for security reasons.
She said some people who were basking in the sun were, however, reluctant to leave and that's why police whipped them.
