Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja Coalition teams have termed the first sitting of dialogue at Bomas of Kenya successful and announced talks will begin in earnest on Monday.

Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Azimio group, said the two sides have agreed to set up two technical teams with two rapporteurs.

"Speakers of both Houses will provide hansard reporters because documents will be generated and they will be presented on the floors of the Senate and National Assembly," he said.

He said the agenda of the discussions will be agreed upon on Monday.

"We are yet to agree on the agenda items. When we meet again we will agree on how to frame the agenda," he said.

He said the technical teams from both sides should sit by Friday.

"The meeting had a good demonstration of faith. We will not discuss the matters out there over the weekend. You will see good order."

National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah, the leader of the Kenya Kwanza side, also termed the first meeting as successful.

"We will begin once we frame the agenda items. We do not have the luxury of failing," he said.

The talks are aimed at resolving the impasse between the government and the opposition after a spate of protests that have led to loss of lives and injuries to innocent Kenyans.

Kenya Kwanza had listed the reconstitution of the IEBC Commission, implementation of two-thirds gender rule, the entrenchment of the Constituency Development Fund and the establishment, entrenchment of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition and embedment of the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary.

On the other hand, Azimio wants the cost of living, audit of the 2022 Presidential election results, restructuring and reconstitution of the IEBC and related matters to form part of the agenda.

Earlier on while making his opening remarks, Kalonzo said Azimio side will respect dignity of all participants, the constitution and the rule of law.

"We will not negotiate for any form of power sharing. We will also not put the interest of any of our leaders ahead of the interest of the people of Kenya," he said.

Embu Governor Cecil Mbarire said they had come in good faith, putting the interests of Kenyans first.

"We will look at long lasting solutions of the challenges facing Kenyans. We believe we will get the solutions to move the country forward and maintain peace," she said.

Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, lawmakers Hassan Omar and Catherine Wambilianga for Kenya Kwanza side and Opiyo Wandayi, the Leader of the Minority Party in the National Assembly, Eugene Wamalwa, the Party Leader of DAP, Okon'go Omogeni, Senator for Nyamira and Amina Mnyazi, MP for Malindi for Azimio were present.
