Kericho County Ad-hoc committee has recommended the prosecution of six county officials for allegedly misusing Sh14 million raised to help victims of Londiani Junction accident.
An investigation into the funds was occasioned after Kericho Deputy Governor Fred Kirui claimed that Sh13.6 million collected during a fundraiser Londiani Crash victims had been misappropriated.
A committee made up of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) was formed to investigate the matter.
It was then given a 14-day period to probe the matter, which elapsed on Friday.
The Ad-hoc committee which presented its report to the Kericho County Assembly on Friday seeks the removal of County Secretary Wesley Bor.
The report says Bor has been accused of forgery of minutes as well as violating the public finance management act.
Health Services County Executive Committee (CEC) Brenda Bii was accused of abuse of office and overseeing misappropriation of the funds.
The MCAs also want CEC Finance Leonard Ngetich removed for similar offences.
The County Chief Officer in the Executive Office of the Governor Alphonce Rotich is alleged to have committed forgery, abuse of office, and violation of procurement rules and procedure.
The committee wants the firing of Gilbert Bii who is the Finance Chief Officer as well as Lands Chief Officer Betty Chebet.
After DG Kirui alleged embezzlement, Governor Eric Mutai said the claims were unfounded as the process of releasing the money to the affected families was still underway.
Mutai said his government had not used a cent out of money collected to pay for tents hire, hospitality and security as claimed.
"No amount of money from the Sh13 million was used to pay for tent hire, mortuary fee, hospitality and any other expenses out of the Sh13 million,” the governor said.
