Narok Senator Ledama Olekina now says that the Devolution conference is a waste of public resources.

Speaking on Tuesday, Ledama equated the conference to a boys and girls club where all they will do is talk about nothing substantial.

The senator noted that because of this, he will not participate in the eighth devolution conference.

"The devolution conference is a waste of public resources! It’s a boys and girls club to parade themselves to talk about nothing! I won’t attend!" Ledama said.

His remarks come ahead of the beginning of the devolution conference in Eldoret.

President William Ruto will open the conference that is slated to start on Tuesday, August 15-19.

Ruto is expected to officially open the conference on Wednesday, and former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair is among the dignitaries expected to attend.

More than 10,000 participants, both local and international, are expected to attend.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and opposition leader Raila Odinga are also expected to grace the event.

The Council of Governors said Odinga will grace the event on Thursday, while Gachagua will preside over the official closing ceremony on Friday.

The two Speakers and Chief Justice Martha Koome are among those slated to address the meeting.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii said preparations for the event are complete.

The event will be held at the Eldoret Sports Club.
