Public Service and Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has appointed members of the Multi-Sectoral Working Group on the realization of two-thirds gender principle.

In a gazette notice dated August 15, Jumwa said the 23-member team will be chaired by Veronica Nduva with Daisy Amdany as the co-chair.

"The working group will serve for a term of six months effective the date of the gazette notice and will be based at the State Department of Gender at Teleposta Towers," Jumwa said.

The President's advisor on Women's rights Harriet Chiggai is among the individuals appointed as members of the group.

The team will have six joint secretaries comprising Jackline Makokha, Richard Miano, Eva Mageto, Sylvester Mbithi, Christabel Wekesa and Rhoda Misiko.

"The terms of reference of the working group shall be to review and analyse previous proposals for the implementation of the two-thirds gender principle," the gazette notice read in part.

Jumwa said the team will also conduct comparative studies on best practices, engage experts and stakeholders, undertake public participation and develop and recommend a framework for the implementation of the two-thirds gender principle.

The CS said the working group will also be charged with mobilising resources towards the achievement of its objectives and performing any other functions that may be assigned in the course of its tenure.

"In the discharge of its functions, the working group may regulate its own procedure, co-opt experts as may be necessary and create sub-committees for the efficient discharge of its functions," the CS added.

The appointment of the working group comes at a time the Kenya Kwanza side and the opposition Azimio coalition have started fresh bipartisan talks.

The implementation of the two-thirds gender principle has been fronted by the government side as one of the agenda items.

The talks started Friday last week amid deep suspicions, hardline stance and roadside attacks between the warring sides.
