Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago was holed up at the Rift Valley Regional Directorate of Criminal Investigations Headquarters in Nakuru for the better part of Wednesday evening.

Mandago who was accompanied by a battery of lawyers presented himself at the DCI offices some minutes past 4:00pm.

He is being sought over the Sh1.1 billion controversial Overseas Educational programme in Finland and Canada that has left many parents and students in tears.

A warrant of arrest was issued by Nakuru Senior Principal Magistrate, Peter Ndege this morning after the former Uasin Gishu Governor failed to appear in court as scheduled.

While issuing the warrant, the Magistrate noted that Mandago's mobile phone was off and he was a non-resident of Nakuru.

Earlier in the day, Mandago, through his Twitter account said there were rumours that he was sought by the police over pending arrest.

The politician promised that he would present himself if required to.

He also claimed that he has talked with the affected families and was ready to refund the funds.

Before his arrival at the DCI regional Headquarters, there was tension around the Nakuru Law Courts as armed police officers sealed off all the entries.

The court's gate remained closed despite the heavy police presence.

This comes hours after President William Ruto ordered the matter investigated and those found culpable arrested.

Speaking at the devolution conference that is going on in Eldoret, Ruto promised to give local scholarships to the affected students.

He was still holed up in the headquarters by the time of going to the press.
