Siaya county set to launch Sh484m industrial park

The project is a partnership between the National and county government.

Preparations for the launch of the Sh484 million Siaya industrial park project are complete, governor James Orengo has said.

Speaking to the Star on Wednesday, Governor Orengo said a contractor who will implement the aggregation centre industrial park had already been identified.

The contractor, according to the county boss, will move to the site next week to start work after the launch.

The Star has established that a pre-contract/ Contract negotiation meeting was held on Wednesday which was followed by contract signing in readiness for site possession next week.

The contract for the industrial park project has been awarded to Brechu Company Ltd at Sh 483,688,922.23.

The industrial park is a Co-funded project with the Orengo's Nyalore administration with the national government.

The project will be launched on August 22, 2023, in a ceremony which will be graced by Governor James Orengo and trade CS Moses Kuria among other government officials.

According to the county CEC in charge of roads and public works George Nyingiro, the salient features of the project, includes the construction of four value-addition warehouses, two aggregation warehouses, eight cold rooms and an office block.

"The centre will also have a pump house and a Powerhouse," the CEC said.

He said that other components of the multi-million project which will be amongst the flagship projects undertaken by the Nyalore administration including tarmacking of the compound, parking area and access to the warehouses.

"The Aggregation Centre Industrial Park will occupy a total area of 40,500 Square meters (SQM)," the county minister said.

According to Siaya county minister of Trade Grace Agola, the existence of the park will come with numerous advantages to the residents of the rural county.

The CEC noted that the industrial park will avail basic infrastructure for investment, such as a warehouse, electricity and cold room aggregation of products.

"The park will also help in reducing post-harvest loses, and reducing investment costs," she said.

Other benefits will include ease of accessibility to most production lines, and attraction of investors, both local and foreign.

It will also strengthen cooperative activities and growth, help grow other value chains and create employment.
