Ex-Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto has won this year's Devolution Warrior Award.

Rutto was named the overall Devolution Warrior during the Devolution Awards Ceremony held on Wednesday at Eldoret sports club.

The ex-Bomet county boss bagged the award for his commitment to rooting for devolution and contribution to relevant policies.

"Simba Award winner is recognised for having contributed to the development of policies and laws that address local challenges and provide solutions despite the challenges," said COG chairperson Anne Waiguru said.

The awards held after every five years are aimed at recognizing and celebrating the efforts of individuals and institutions that have shown exemplary performance in "promoting, protecting and championing" devolution in Kenya.

The inaugural awards were held during the 4th Annual Devolution Conference in 2017.

This year's conference in Uasin Gishu is the 8th and the first biennial in the new arrangement.

The theme is ‘10 Years of Devolution: The Present and the Future’ and the sub-theme: Driving Transformation from the local level: County Governments as the Centre of economic development.

President William Ruto opened the meeting on Wednesday.

It is set to end on August 19. In the other six categories winners Ndovu Award went to Integrated Development Facility (IDF), Kifaru (Wanyeki Jedidah), Nyati (Santa Sebastian), Chui (CREAW Kenya), Njiwa (Tenda sasa) and Tai (Nation Media Group).
