President William Ruto on Saturday hosted his counterpart from South Sudan Salva Kiir.

Kiir arrived in Nairobi on Saturday morning and headed straight to State House where he was received by Ruto.

The State House Press Secretary Emmanuel Talam told the Star that the two Heads of state were meeting to discuss bilateral relations on trade and regional security.

Last December, the two Presidents met in Juba and discussed the Lapset issues among other issues.

The Lapsset Corridor Program is a regional flagship project intended to provide transport and logistics infrastructure aimed at creating seamless connectivity between the Eastern African Countries of Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan.

This was the first international visit to South Sudan since Ruto's inauguration.

In April, both Ruto and Kiir were among the leaders picked by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to help broker a ceasefire in the conflict in Sudan.

This was after armed clashes erupted between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in heavily populated parts of the capital, Khartoum, and spread to other cities including in the Darfur region.
