Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri was on Tuesday injured after chaos rocked a meeting she had organised in Kerugoya town.

A clip shared online showed people running in all directions as two camps clashed with Njeri claiming disabled women were injured in the ensuing melee.

Speaking after the incident, the Woman Rep who was clutching her head with a tissue paper said she was bleeding after being hit.

She claimed they were walking on foot after their meeting was disrupted by what she claimed were hired goons when they encountered young men on motorbikes who attacked them.

"Na ni watu ambao najua na hata natoka damu lakini lazima nitetee watu wa Kirinyaga na hapa Kirinyaga sitoki, mimi nimechaguliwa hapa," she said.

The lawmaker said she had called the meeting ostensibly to discuss the provision of water to residents of Kirinyaga.

She cited political rivalry and claimed the people who attacked her had been sent by someone she knew.

"Na watu lazima wapate haki yao ya maji. Kwa hivyo hata hao wenye wananigonga na hao wenye wametumana wananigonge nawajua."
