Senate gazettes special sitting over National Dialogue Committee

The motion seeks to legally establish the committee.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has gazetted a special sitting on Tuesday next week to discuss among other things the National Dialogue Committee.

This comes after the National Assembly adopted the committee which is spearheading negotiations between Azimio and Kenya Kwanza.

"Notice is given to all Senators that pursuant to Standing Order 33(1) of the Senate Standing orders, on the request of the Senate Majority Leader and with support of the requisite number of Senators, I have appointed Tuesday, the 29th August 2023, as a day for a special sitting of the Senate," the notice reads.

"The sitting will be held at the senate chambers from 9.30 am, on Tuesday."

Other issues set to be discussed include; A message from President William Ruto on the nomination of Andrew Mukite Musangi for appointment as chairperson of the Board of the Central Bank of Kenya. 

"Message from the National Assembly on the message, by the National Assembly of the Climate Change (Amendment) Bill, 2023 (National Assembly Bills, No. 42 of 2023)"

The Senate will also consider the Public Finance Management (Amendment) Bill, 2023 (National Assembly Bills, No. 16 of 2023).

The motion seeks to legally establish the committee.

If adopted by the Senate, the NDC will have 60 days to submit its report to the National Assembly.

The committee is expected to recommend appropriate legal and policy reforms on issues affecting Kenyans in line with the constitution and respecting the functional and institutional integrity of state organs.
