Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe was on Thursday engaged in a physical altercation with police officers during a public event.

In a clip shared online, trouble started after the officers allegedly switched off the public address system as the MP addressed a crowd.

The agitated lawmaker is heard asking one of the officers on what grounds he had taken the drastic measure.

"Ulichaguliwa na nani wewe?...Washa hii kitu, unazimia nani mic? (Who elected you? Switch this thing on, why are you switching off the mic?).

A number of voices are heard asking the officers to exercise mutual respect when dealing with leaders and the general public.

The officer at the centre of the controversy - one that appeared to be the senior most among his colleagues - tried to explain himself saying he acted under instructions.

The MP and the crowd could hear none of that.

"Uliambiwa na nani? Instructions gani? Akuje mwenye amekupatia instructions (Who told you? Which instructions? Let whoever sent you come)," the MP retorted.

The officer's plea to be heard fell on deaf ears as the MP started shoving him to leave the venue.

His colleague tried to intervene and explain to the MP and the crowd that the officer was acting on instructions.

"Instructions of who? My friend, the police's work is to maintain law and order, who had disrupted order? Mnaingia kwa siasa afande?" a female voice from the crowd is heard saying.

The situation escalated into a shouting match prompting a junior officer to interject saying "msipige mkubwa yetu, don't touch our boss".

All the while, the senior officer, clad in jungle military fatigue, kept his cool and occasionally smiled even amid the hostile reception.
