President William Ruto has termed Budapest World Athletics gold winners Faith Kipyegon and Mary Moraa as great assets to the country.

According to the President, the two and the whole team that represented Kenya in the championship are the reason the country is the best in Africa.

"Let me also congratulate the golden ladies, Mary Moraa and Faith Kipyegon. Our congratulations Mary. Congratulations times two Faith you ladies are a great asset to our country. You are the reason why Kenya is the best in Africa. And you are the reason why Kenya is number five together with your team and all the others," Ruto said.

He congratulated the two alongside others who won medals in Budapest.

The head of state noted that they have once again made the country proud, reassuring them of the state's support going forward.

Ruto spoke during the launch of the Talanta Hela headquarters where the athletes were also feted for their stellar performances in the races they participated in.

"Our medallists from Budapest congratulations, good people. You have made us very proud. And you have our goodwill and support. We will stand by you going into the future. Asante sana," he said.

The President narrated that each time the national anthem was played he felt like a global leader in every aspect.

"And it wasn't me, it wasn't CS Ababu Namwamba or any one of us who made that happen. It is you. So, you guys are great. And you have our goodwill and support," Ruto said.

Kipyegon won the women’s 5,000m gold medal, three days after bagging the 1500m gong at the National Athletics Centre.

Moraa handed Kenya the final gold medal of the championships in the women’s  800m.
