The Independent Policing Oversight Authority has condemned attacks on the National Police Service officers in their line of duty.

This follows an attack that killed two officers and left several injured on Sunday in Mandera.

In a statement on Monday, Ipoa chairperson Anne Makori said the authority condemns such attacks and is determined to ensure justice prevails.

"Ipoa in the strongest terms possible, condemns the actions of armed or organized criminal groups that seek to threaten the peace and tranquillity enjoyed by Kenyans, " Makori said.

"The authority believes the determination and unapparelled capabilities of the National Police Service to pursue and bring to justice all criminal elements who may be hellbent on bringing instability to the country."

According to Ipoa, the police officers were on a routine patrol when their vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device in Ledhi sub-location, Mandera.

"Preliminary reports indicate the incident was a cowardly act of terror," Makori said.

Ipoa reaffirmed its commitment to ensure Kenya attains and sustains the highest possible standards of policing, ensuring that all law enforcement officers are adequately cushioned while undertaking their crucial responsibility of securing the lives and property of Kenyans and residents of the country.

"We condole with the Inspector General of Police, members of the National Police Service, families, and friends of the fallen heroes," Ipoa said.

"We wish for the restoration of health for the injured officers."
