Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has commended the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for the work it has doing in the fight against transnational organised crimes in the country and across the region.

The DP in particular lauded the Anti-Narcotics Unit which has in recent days stepped up efforts in the fight against drug trafficking.

The unit has been conducting swoops that have led to the seizure of consignments of drugs and the arrest of prime suspects.

"I'm very impressed by the work that you are doing and I will be paying a visit to the Directorate to explore ways in which the government can further support the Anti-Narcotics Unit," Gachagua said.

He said among the agenda of the talks will be how to extend the war on drugs to all parts of the country, especially in rural areas, where drugs and substance abuse are also rampant.

While commending the officers, Gachagua pledged his commitment towards supporting the DCI in the fight against drugs, which he said had ruined the lives of many youths in the country.

The DP spoke on Thursday when he visited the police stand in the ongoing Mombasa International Show.

Gachagua, who was the Chief Guest at this year’s Mombasa trade fair, was taken around various stands representing different units in the DCI and the Kenya Police and Administration Police Services.
