Azimio leader Raila Odinga now says that the increased university tuition fees is unacceptable.

According to Raila, the move will only make education less accessible to all Kenyans.

The Opposition leader said this is the time the country needs free education for all more than ever.

He noted that free education was a core aspect of the Azimio plan for the country should they have won elections.

"Now, more than ever, free education to university level, a core Azimio vision, is crucial for our nation. It is unacceptable that university education is now being made less accessible," Raila said.

With the introduction of the funding model that was proposed by the Education Taskforce, most students are anxious that they may not be able to join their desired institutions.

Some students have expressed concerns that various institutions have increased fees even after the government issued a warning.

This comes even as the government had earlier warned institutions against fee increments.

"Universities have signed a memorandum of understanding with us based on the fees they charge. If they increase fees, then the MOU will be revoked and they will be charged," Universities Fund CEO Geoffrey Monari said.

The state has also restructured the student loans formula and will now give scholarships depending on one's level of need.
